We know that we cant live our life in the way we want..but it doesn't mean that we just put down our hope too. Everyone wants a change even for a while but yes they want........Not all the changes were successful but we learned from the failures too. When we feel alone we need someone to be with us but is it wrong to let others take decisions for us when we feel insecure? so i think Yes, it is because we should not let others choose our destinies. We can always overcome our insecurities and fears by looking for help in others by being helpful.
It is not only our insecurities but the fears that surround us that us to feel unready for life.... insecurities and fears might win over our beliefs making us feel useless and this may lead us to give up in life, letting others take control of our lives and decisions, giving them the opportunity to choose our destiny. Is hard to make decisions when we are insecure, but it is not possible. Every time when i make a decision & feel insecure, i just go for it. I rather make my own decisions than that some one else make them for me, now its all over, lets shows the other that we are as important as they are that even if we have insecurities and fear we are still captains of our destiny....... is hard to find ourselves when our love ones make us feel useless but they dont own our live they do not control our lives unless we let them... Lets be strong to face our Parents and loved ones, learn to put our insecurities and fears aside so we can make choices that take us to success cause we need changes in our life. Always remember that with insecurities and with fears we can still make decisions and control our lives.

I agree to what you said we can't let others be captains of your ship (destiny) and let them move it in wrong direction.
And as you mentioned in bigging "I keep saying it to myself, hoping that the act of saying the words will make it a reality. "
I'd like to tell you this thing really works for good most of times because its a proven fact that more you tell yourself that You want to do this do that....more your un-councious mind gets prepared for it and make things happen.
